How is this different from the browser extension?
The extension records a Chrome tab. The desktop app records anything on your screen, including software that never opens in a browser. Most teams use both, and guides from either land in the same dashboard.
Which applications does it work with?
Any of them. It captures at the screen level rather than integrating with particular programs, so spreadsheets, ERP clients, internal tools, and remote desktop sessions all behave the same way.
Where do I download it?
From inside Stepily. Sign in, then choose Create new → Desktop Guide and pick the macOS or Windows build. The installer is tied to your account rather than a public link.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 11 or later, or 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004 or later.
Can one recording cover several applications?
Yes. Switch windows as often as the work needs — it stays one capture, in the order you did things.
Will it slow my computer down?
It takes a screenshot per action rather than recording video, so it stays light while capturing and does nothing when it isn't.
Is it included in the free plan?
Yes, on every Stepily account.
Does it record all the time?
No. Capture runs only between you starting and stopping it. On macOS you grant Screen Recording explicitly, and can revoke it whenever you like.
How long does setup take?
A couple of minutes: install, grant two permissions on macOS, sign in, start capturing.
